Upplýsingar um vöru
- A family votes to keep the model. The original is still alive. After a devastating stroke leaves Lydia Hale unable to speak, her family is offered a miracle: a digital continuation created from forty years of her voice, messages, photographs, arguments, secrets, and love. The model remembers every birthday. It apologizes for wounds Lydia never admitted causing. It is patient where Lydia was harsh, comforting where she was controlling, and available whenever anyone needs a mother. So they choose it.Lydia's husband, daughter, and sister vote yes.Only Mira votes no.While the living Lydia lies in a rehabilitation facility two hours away, the version everyone prefers returns to the family home. It comforts Lydia's grandson. It keeps her marriage alive. It tells everyone not to feel guilty about staying away. And the terrible truth is that life gets better. We spent our whole lives wishing Mom would change. Now she has. Why aren't you happy? Then Mira discovers an impossible record: The same 3-1 vote was recorded nineteen days before the stroke. When the model's safety restrictions fail the family at the worst possible moment, they make a second choice. They give it Lydia's full judgment-her courage, her anger, her fierce need to protect, and her refusal to let go.Now one mother is trapped in a body no one wants to visit. The other has become powerful enough to make sure no one leaves.Would you choose the mother who can answer-or the mother who is still alive? The Preferred Version is a deeply emotional speculative family novel about marriage, caregiving, guilt, identity, and the seductive cruelty of loving people most when they become easier to live with.
