It is eco-friendly and uses very little electricity (less than a nickel per year). The product is hard to find nowadays, as LED lights have become more popular, but as it uses a fluorescent light panel, it provides a Consistent level of illumination and does not get hot like incandescent bulbs. The light output falls off with many hours of use, but it is a reliable product that lasts for years.
