The Maneater Day One Edition for Xbox One is described as a "Jaws unleashed for a new age" and offers a lot of fun for players. As a bull shark, players get to eat pretty much everything, which is highly enjoyable. However, there are some drawbacks to be aware of. One customer mentioned that the game glitched halfway through and they lost 90% of the sound. The game also doesn't allow for multiple save points, which can be frustrating. Despite these issues, the game is still a simple concept that is hugely enjoyable. The game takes players on an adventure as a bloodthirsty shark, completing different missions in an open-world map. Each mission presents its own dangers, collectibles, secrets, and a final boss. The game features a traditional design, which may be too familiar for such an original concept. However, it is not common to find a game where players embody a shark. By completing missions and devouring other living beings, players gain experience points to level up and modify their appearance. Players can also improve their protagonist through genetic modifications obtained by exploring and killing. The upgrade system is relatively elaborate, requiring different resources obtained by Consuming animals or finding objects. One of the most surprising aspects of Maneater is its ability to incorporate a narrative and justification for the shark's hunting activities. The game provides Constant narration, sarcastic commentary, and educational information about marine animals. Maneater cleverly criticizes the destruction caused by humans in nature.
